Discovering Independent Fashion

As an independent fashion brand owner, I’m often asked what’s the difference between mainstream retail fashion and independent fashion? Or what is an independent brand? Here’s my take on things.

Independent fashion is a name given to brands who generally wish to retain creative control of their work. Developing close connections with their clients and customers. Usually designed in-house, the collections will be smaller than larger retail fashion brands. The garments are made in small production runs and not mass-produced. It’s not unusual for the designer to take on some of the production themselves or add handmade finishes. In essence, the designer /owner of the brands will be hands-on involved in much of your garment’s journey before it is dispatched.

Where to find, shop niche & independent fashion.

The best way to support the brands is to shop direct with the label. There are specialist boutiques and online platforms, these are a great way to discover new fashion labels. Some of my favourites, Wolf & Badger, ANNA and Etsy.

Shopping and supporting your independent fashion brand not only means you are purchasing quality-made, beautiful & unique items. You are also supporting a big dream.

Every sale means the world. Thank you. 🤍
